Back on the bike

Just finished 12 miles cycling in windy conditions around the Cheshire lanes. First time on the bike after a few weeks off with a sore knee. My knee held up OK and my bike rode like a dream thanks to Pete giving it some TLC.

I've had my Mercian bike for over 25 years, bought with money from my first paper round; the bike was second hand at the time and is actually older than I am. I've decided to give the bike a name after our long and sometimes painful relationship. I've decided on Martin after two of my good friends Martin B. and Martin T. who share many qualities with my bike. They are not as fashionable as they once were, carry a few extra pounds and are above all strong and reliable.

I looked into getting a new touring bike this year to complete LEJOG and after much research I couldn’t find a better bike. If I manage to finish the ride I think I'll send it back to the Mercian factory in Derby for a re-spray.
